He then carefully described my current and emerging issues and the pros and cons of alternative treatment options and patiently answered all my questions in detail. I now have some excellent whole crowns that are comfortable and easy to clean. Now considering an implant which Dr. Bonsall is very experienced in providing.

From the moment I walked in the front office, I was treated with amazing dignity and respect and I was led to Dr. Bonsall’s office for my appointment and he was happy to see me and began my appointment with ease. I was very grateful and happy because Gr. Bonsall found 2 cavities that I had not known about that were not paining me and he was able to fix them and he allowed me to pay at a later date as I was only prepared to pay for the painful tooth that was aching that I had come in to get in to see him for. I cannot recommend Dr. Bonsall enough; he is professional, kind and knows what a patient needs. I think he’s the best dentist in Basel.

Negative Erfahrung: I went to this doctor's practice to get a check and a cleaning. He recommended insistently that I buy the Invisalign system, claiming that a small detail in my teeth would later become a bigger issue, that at some point I would not be able to clean my teeth properly, etc. Such insistent threats to the health of my mouth caused distrust, so I decided to seek a second opinion. To my surprise, the other dentist explained that what I had was an entirely aesthetic matter and that it was up to me if I wanted the Invisalign or not, and that it would not become an issue later on. I recommend you get a second opinion before making any decisions with this dentist. And if at any point you suspect professional malpractice (unexpected fees, unnecessary dental work or removal of teeth), there is an office in Basel where you can report these matters.

Negative Erfahrung: I visited this dentist in 2023. He found two infections, one on top and the second one on the bottom. He recommended the extraction of both teeth. In addition, based on what he saw, he advised me to have them all front bottom teeth removed and replace them with fake teeth. I would like to add that I wear a restrainer at he told me that it was broken, but recommended to leave it. I agreed to have the back teeth removed, if that is what was needed to fix the problem. Long story short, he billed more that what he quoted, claiming that he had only quoted part of the procedure. As a result, I lost trust on him and, toothless and overcharged, I decided to go to another dentist. To my surprise, the new dentist told me: first, the retainer was not broken, and second, the infection was handled in a more healthy way and certainly more economical. I still had to suffer the consequences of having lost a tooth when it was not necessary. I brief, there was no need to remove my tooth. If you end in this place, because you don't speak German, I can tell you most dentists speak English. You can also seek for a second opinion before engaging in any treatment with this dentist.

Fantastische Erfahrung: Great dentist, great staff. Fixed a 20 year-old cross bite problem in 5 min. I will do now follow-ups twice a year for a quick clean and I also did one crown (better than the original).

Over these years, I have been particularly impressed by the following: 1) Excellent quality of the care, and stellar advice in developing a long-term strategy for managing certain gum and teeth issues. 2) Feeling of trust I have developed over seven years. Dr. Bonsall has taken a pragmatic, conservative approach in advising certain procedures. Never have I felt any pressure to undertake expensive procedures which may not yet be necessary. 3) Transparent price list. A QR code is located in several areas of the practice. You can scan this code, or simply ask about prices at the reception. 4) Location: The practice is located on a beautiful historic street in St. Alban, lined with cute boutique shops. Fantastische Erfahrung: Spent 10 years going to dentist after dentist after Dentist , even in different countries , trying to find a solution to my gum disease problems. Dr. Bonsall was the dentist I should have gone to first 10 years ago , he tells it straight and is brutally honest when he needs to be. After 1 year of treatment and various implants I now have a perfect set of teeth once again. The quality of the work done is exceptional.

Fantastische Erfahrung: I had to take my seven year old daughter for a filling and a fissure sealing. This was her first time having any dental work. Dr Bonsall talked directly to her, explaining every step, showing her the instrument and letting her feel pressure/texture on her hand. He answered her questions and spent time answering mine too -drawing me diagrams to explain. We had the same experience with the hygienist during her fissure sealing. Such patient explanation and asking for consent. The hygienist explained she had children too and this was obvious from how kind and responsive she was with my daughter. Thank you! Dentistry has certainly changed a lot since I was a child.

Negative Erfahrung: In my opinion, if you are a current patient you should immediately find a different dentist in Basel. I find Garry to be unethical and untrustworthy. If you are looking for a dentist, read all of the 1 star reviews and deeply consider whether you’d like to work with him. Look for a dentist with modern equipment that invests in their practice - i.e., a CEREC machine, digital x-ray, modern billing. Look for a dentist that does not recommend unnecessary expensive work, does a poor job with his technique, causes you pain, refuses to be accountable to his poor work and will threaten to take legal action if you do not pay. Contact me via Facebook if you also had a bad experience. I had a minor filling come out before taking an overseas trip. Instead of a normal filling on the spot, he recommended a CHF 1,500 porcelain filling. I agreed. He said it would require two weeks for the mold to be turned around into the porcelain and he would provide a temporary filling for my overseas trip. The tooth was sensitive to liquids (hot or cold) and the filling came out. The dentist abroad questioned why I would need a porcelain filling. He then also stated a protective layer was not applied that would avoid this issue. After Garry Bonsall placed the insert I could not chew without pain. I consulted two other dentists in Basel and a close dentist friend stated (unprompted). The conclusion from the other dentists was that a porcelain inlay was unnecessary, primary cause of the pain was improper bonding technique by Garry Bonsall that resulted in a small gap between the porcelain filling and the tooth that allowed it to press against the tooth. They also asked for an x-ray - which I could not provide because none was taken. My quality of life over an 8-10 week period after this unnecessary procedure was terrible . Luckily, the tooth healed after 2-3 months. Through other dentists I also learned that the current approach to porcelain fillings are through a machine called a CEREC - many other dentists in Basel have a CEREC machine, which will make the filling in a single visit. That’s right - if I had been at a dentist with more modern equipment, I could have had everything handled the same day and not gone abroad for 2 weeks, in pain, unable to enjoy food or drink, because of the temporary solution Garry Bonsall recommended so he could charge me for an expensive and antiquated porcelain inlay technique. I reluctantly paid the CHF 1,500 bill. I should add that when I said I wouldn’t pay if I needed to have the work re-done by another dentist he threatened legal action. 6 months later I received a CHF 75 bill for a 'missed cleaning' that I never scheduled and won't pay. There are too many good dentists in Basel to take a chance on Garry Bonsall.

Garry talked me through the whole process and my options in an easy to understand way, and instilled some confidence in me to have the treatment without being at all pushy. Half way through the treatment and I am already very happy with the results. Garry and this whole team are very friendly and professional. I also go here for regular check ups and cleaning. Trusted family dentist, who sincerely likes to help his patients. Updating this review after my treatment and I couldn’t be happier with the results! This process took around 14 months, and now, one year after my braces fully came off, I am still so glad to have decided to have had it done. I now have straighter teeth and a bigger smile.
